First model year for the C7 Z06, featuring the all-new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V8 producing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Z07 Performance Package introduced as an $8,995 option including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, revised FE7 suspension tuning, and aggressive aerodynamic components. Coupe started at $78,995, convertible at $83,995. Known issue: Undersized heat exchangers and radiators led to power reduction (limp mode) during extended track sessions or hot weather performance driving. GM later extended warranty coverage for cooling system components to 7 years/72,000 miles in response to owner complaints and class-action lawsuit.
Added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity features. New color options introduced: Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat and expanded Black Suede Design Package availability. Limited-edition C7.R Edition launched mid-year with only 500 units produced, all equipped with Z07 Performance Package and unique graphics honoring Corvette Racing's GT Le Mans program. Cooling issues persisted in early production 2016 models but showed slight improvement over 2015. Performance specifications remained unchanged at 650 hp/650 lb-ft.
Significant cooling system improvements implemented, including larger heat exchangers, additional radiator capacity, and revised ducting to address overheating concerns from 2015-2016 models. These changes largely resolved the power reduction issues during track use. New exterior color options added including Watkins Glen Gray Metallic. Performance Data Recorder received software updates for improved functionality. Z07 package content and pricing remained consistent. This is generally considered the first "fully sorted" Z06 year with resolved cooling issues, making 2017+ models more desirable for serious track use.
Limited production year due to paint facility updates at Bowling Green Assembly, resulting in only 9,686 total Corvettes built (all variants). New exterior colors: Sebring Orange and Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic. Updated infotainment system with revised user interface. Manual transmission models now required both brake and clutch pedal depression for engine start (anti-theft/safety feature). Mechanical specifications unchanged. Short production window means 2018 Z07 examples are relatively rare, though not as refined as the final 2019 model year.
Last year of C7 Z06 production before transition to mid-engine C8 generation. Received final refinements including updated suspension damper tuning, revised stability control programming, and latest infotainment software. New color: Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic. Performance specifications remained 650 hp/650 lb-ft. This final model year commands premium pricing due to collector appeal as the last front-engine supercharged Corvette Z06, combined with the most refined cooling system and all accumulated improvements from previous years. Widely considered the best C7 Z06 year to purchase for both performance and long-term value retention.
