Needing to get some quality hard running on the SCCA T3 Nissan 370Z and with Global Time Attack in town, it was a no brainer. The time attack competition in the area has been been growing and the GTA weekend is one of the most fun event. The schedule is great, people generally mind the track rules (apology from me below for a bone head moment), the vibe is amazing the comradery unmatched and there is a true sporting of time attack. So much fun!
The best qualifying testing/simulation track time available to boot. We spent the first day and half at GTA running the car in full SCCA T3 compliant spec, getting down to a 1:50.970 and feeling good that the car ran without issue session after session. We worked through a couple small issues and kept iterating. After achieving our goals, we decided to uncork the engine and remove the SCCA required throttle intake restrictor that restricts air flow into a 42mm restrictor.
We haven't dyno'ed the difference but it was noticeable and this was almost a full second faster. I also know and data confirms I left ~3.-.4 on the table as well.
It was just a tiny bit more edgier than it was with the restrictors and the increased 1-2 mph it looks across the board wasn't very noticeable to be honest. Just a tiny bit rowdier on throttle application, still needing to be on top of the wheel for on-throttle over-steer.
Enjoy, this was a fun lap!
Apology!
At the very end of this session, I last minute pulled out of starting a new flying lap because I realized I didn't have it in me to pump out another max effort attack. I had already checked my mirrors before moving over but unfortunately the direct rear view of the car is horrible - I didn't see anyone. Well unfortunately there was someone there (white 992 I think Porsche GT3) and I blocked their lap and was frankly unsafe. Apologies, that was 100% on me.
