My first time on the South Circuit layout at SMSP in any car. It was a fun, short track with lots of tight corners that suits the I20N. Many thanks to Jono at D series cup for letting me join in on the Honda track day fun.
Coming into this track day I had fitted a new set of 225/40/18 Hankook RS4 as the last set was dead after 33,000km and 5 track days. Not a bad run at all out of them.
I had also fitted a set of Intima RS compound front brake pads. I had purchased these a while ago and it turned out they were a bad manufacturing batch and intima replaced them for free with the upgraded RR compound for me. I still wanted to test the RS out though to do a comparison to the RR. The RS have been fine on the street with no noise and they were good at the track night. I probably would've liked a bit more initial bite but hopefully the RR up them in that regard. They were incredibly fast wearing though and I've gone through more than half the pad material in 4 sessions on track. This was to be expected though and the RR will be on for the next track day.
Now onto the driving. I set my best time of 1:06.51 in the second session and pretty early on in the night. In later sessions I cleaned up a few corners, especially over the back hill and down into the hairpin and was getting green sector twos but couldn't seem to match my sector 1 times with the heavy brake zone. I did put together quite a few 1:06.5-1:06.8 laps throughout the night though so I was at least consistent.
For my next track day I think I'm going to fit some Nankang CRS in the same 225/40/18 to my pair of Weds TC105X that I bought and head to Luddenham raceway to do some back to back testing on the added front grip they should provide.
