2012: McLaren introduced software updates to improve the 12C's transmission and throttle response. The infotainment system received enhancements for better usability. Additionally, a new door release mechanism was implemented to address issues with the original touch-sensitive system.

2013: The 12C received a power increase to 616 horsepower through engine recalibration. This update was offered to existing owners at no cost. McLaren also introduced the 12C Spider, a convertible variant featuring a retractable hardtop with minimal weight gain and performance impact.

2014: In its final production year, the 12C saw the introduction of the McLaren 650S, which was based on the 12C but featured significant enhancements, including increased power, revised styling, and improved aerodynamics. The 650S effectively replaced the 12C in McLaren's lineup.
