Round 3 of the 2025 NSW Supersprint series was held at SMSP North circuit on the 15/06/25. The North layout combines the first couple corners before joining back up after the back hairpin and then coming back around onto the front straight. With a couple straights and other acceleration zones it's not really a layout that suits my low powered NA S2000.
The last time I ran this layout was back in the 2021 Supersprint season where I put in a 1:10.19 lap so I went into the day hoping to get into the 1:09s.
This event was going to be the first time running SMSP with the new voltex circuit front bar along with having installed my new brake system. A bit of testing to be done.
The first couple sessions were quite eventful with a couple red flags, a serious crash and another car catching fire. Between all that I was only managing to lap in the 1:11.0 range and the car was feeling a bit unstable under braking and transitions. The brakes were feeling great though. I made a small change on the wing after session 2 and increased the AOA to try and balance the rear downforce to the new circuit front bar. This change seemed to help as I lost a few km/h down the straight but the car felt much better under braking and through the corners.
Instantly I was into the low 1:10s in session 3 and finished with a 1:09.90 lap. A new PB! Session 4 I was hoping to push for a little more but only managed another couple of 1:10.0x/1:09.9x laps. In the end the session 3 lap was my best and it was good enough for P3 in class and P12 overall. Not a bad result. Round 4 is next month at SMSP GP so we will see how we go there.
