My real first time driving Sonoma at full speed in over 10 years and 13th trackday in my M2 that I've had for about 10 months now. So today I got my first chance getting a feel for speeds and braking zones in certain sectors and turns. As usual, I had some A/V complications and didn't record the front camera for the first 2 sessions but I still included the rear view for my 2nd best lap and me going off. Session 2 I had my 2nd best time and also had me going off into the dirt coming out of the Carousel and also losing my front splitter! Here are my best sessions from the day that ended with a best of 1.53.7.
Notes:
- I suck at braking here and struggled all day. I installed new EBC RP-X pads which I first ran prior weekend at T-Hill West which helped get them heat cycled in. These pads have high initial bite and also overwhelm the PS4S I still have on. Setting Braking to Comfort helped better modulate braking.
- Shifting decisions. Tried to play around a little more with going from 4th down to 2nd going into turns 7 and 11. Takes work to downshift twice under hard braking and timing the shift to 2nd to not over-rev engine and just in time to allow car to settle for a microsec before turn in. Not worth it for turn 7, but does help to rocket out of 11. Turn 4 to 6, just wind out 3rd till you come over the crest into 6.
But great weekend overall and thanks again to @speedsftrackevents8380 for another great event!
