The circuit opened in 1998 and was originally known as Arroyo Seco Motorplex. The road course offers two configurations: a longer 1.4-mile (2.3-kilometer) course that includes a tight set of esses and a chicane with 12 complex turns, and a shorter 1.1-mile (1.8-kilometer) course that deletes the esses and chicane. Both road course configurations can be run in either clockwise or counter-clockwise directions, providing 2 configurations in each direction for a total of 4 possible layouts.
