Amazing two-day weekend at @racesonoma with @lightspeed369.
I finally had time to have all the mods put on the car - wheels, exhaust, and a few suspension bits to give the car a proper alignment it deserves.
Unfortunately, the rubber shortage caught me off guard, and I was not able to source the proper tires. Instead of Goodyear 3R’s(100TW), I was only able to find Goodyear 3’s(220TW) in the right sizes. Compared to the original Cup2’s, these tires have better heat tolerance and wear, but less peak grip, which means they will last longer, provide more consistent lap times, but the pace will be slightly off from the Cup2’s(can’t really complain given their price).
With the addition of a proper alignment, the understeer issue has now been largely eliminated at corner entires and apexes, and corner exits are also extremely neutral, even with less grip in the rear.
The next problem to address with the car is now driving ergonomics! The lateral acceleration going uphill at turn 1 and 2 was so brutal that I had to brace myself with my knee to keep my body inside the seat, which made it extremely challenging to also break and downshift two gears with a manual car at the same time. The steep angle of the Porsche LWBs also weren’t helping, as I could barely see uphill when my helmet was pinched downward by the headrest.
For this lap, I struggled the most at the first few corners, losing almost eight tenths compared to my next session(optimal is a 1:47.9, mostly lost in the first sector). I’m still happy given that this was only my third time running here and the tires were slower than stock.
