2.02.21 best lap from my first time running Buttonwillow CW13 in the E46.
Only ran CW13 one other time in May 2024 with F80. Did a 2.03 flat with compromised tires. Was able to beat that lap in the slower car this go. Still have lots of refinement to link all the corners. Would hit one smooth then miss the another - all day long. Just need to spend more time getting to know the corners by feel. I was doing back-to-back 1.58s in sim.
3-2 shifting zones felt off from sim imo. Kinda had to relearn and try different applications throughout the day. Lots of corners in the morning I would stay in 3rd and slightly bog outa corners. Knowing it was wrong. (I think with practice you could keep the min speed up and make it work. or have a 3.91/4.10) Found a few of the spots challenging to drop to 2nd and still stay committed to line. Was easier to commit to line this session. Worked on it all day and never found my groove for whatever reason.
My ABS didnt seem to care for some of the curbing and bumpy roads that would be immediately after. Especially Turn2 curb jumping and veering left after. If i went straight. It wouldn't act up. Something about the pavement on the left side. Would sorta lock up or semi-ICE mode feel. Pretty scary. Didnt happen on this lap but was interesting experience I havent really had elsewhere. Will highlight on track day video.
Lots of room for improvement. Probably lost half a second alone to the VW at start. Would like to run Buttonwillow more often but it is a long trip for me. Very flowy and fast compared to NorCal tracks. Always risky driving 300 miles for a track day. Want to be able to drive back home.
10/04/25 track day hosted by Ongrid. Red + Pink Group (Fast Advanced).
