Slowpokes 2023
It’s been awhile since I’ve been back to BIR’s comp course (October 2022) so I was a bit rusty.. The whole day was a déjà vu to that last time in October – Cold, windy and swapping brakes mid-day. Lol.
Conditions: Cold morning ~40 degrees. Warmed to ~55 degrees, mostly cloudy and (again) very windy in the afternoon pushing the car offline at T2.
Equipment of the day: 4 (Road America) session old Hoosier R7’s (275F/315R) on 18x10 and 18x12 Finspeeds. Swapped 60% used rear pads out at lunch as they were running very hot. Front’s were also melting – haha – they made it but were very thin at the end of the day. Just ordered R16’s front/rear so we’ll try those out.. The KNS rep said Hoosiers + C8 = pad obliteration.
Driving: The day was typical Slowpokes – great people & well intended, but pretty busy with a very wide variety of lapping speeds. My best lap was 1:41.26 driving around traffic in session 3.. Post lunch with fresh rear pads didn’t yield any faster laps as the track wasn’t warming up. I ended up packing it in 2 sessions after lunch with my razor thin front pads in-tow. I'm confident there's a 1.39.xx available with some warmer temps and open laps to work the time down. My Catalyst optimal laps were at 1:40 flat all day.
Car: ‘WolfpaqC8’ is a 2022 C8 Corvette Z51 and has magnetic shocks/PTM. Mods from ‘Factory Stock’: Lowered ¾” front and back on Paragon collars, GM-spec track alignment, GM brake ducts (now removed) Girodisc rotors front/rear, G-Loc R12 track pads front/rear and SRF flush. 1 Day old R7’s were on duty for this event.
*stay tuned for G-Loc R16 feedback
