Ecsta XS KU36

The Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 is an extreme performance summer tire engineered to deliver maximum handling and grip capability for both normal street use and racetrack applications, bridging the gap between street performance and competition rubber. This tire incorporates ultra-fine carbon black compounding for maximum traction combined with low void asymmetric tread pattern featuring circumferential grooving optimized for high cornering grip during aggressive driving. The KU36 carries an aggressive 140 UTQG treadwear rating reflecting its ultra-soft competition-oriented compound that typically provides approximately 7,000-10,000 miles before reaching wear bars under aggressive driving conditions, with Y speed rating delivering optimum run temperature of 205 degrees Fahrenheit. The tire earned SCCA approval for use in "ST" class events, demonstrating its competitive capabilities for autocross and club racing applications while maintaining street legality.

The Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 features ultra-wide tread contact with highly rounded shoulders optimizing footprint shape during high lateral load conditions, while the design specifically targets quick autocross warm-up characteristics while maintaining race track durability for extended sessions. User reviews consistently describe the XS as "extremely well behaved on the street with an obscene amount of lateral grip on most street surfaces," delivering steering response and dry grip approaching race compound capabilities. However, the large tread blocks and super-stick compounding lose some initial turn-in feel in wet conditions, with wet grip limited compared to conventional ultra-high performance alternatives—a common trade-off for extreme performance tires prioritizing ultimate dry capabilities. Tread wear sets in faster than typical UHP tires due to the soft competition compound, requiring more frequent replacement than standard performance alternatives. The Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 has been discontinued but established strong reputation among autocross competitors and track day enthusiasts seeking maximum dry grip at accessible price points. This tire served drivers demanding race tire performance for competition while accepting accelerated wear rates and limited wet weather capabilities as necessary compromises for ultimate dry traction.
