The two laps leading up to my spin near the end of the Enduro at VSCDA Grattan 2025. These tires were giving me plenty of signs they have had enough by this point. However, Tommy in the Red Miata came out of the pits just ahead of me on lap 15 and I'd been trying to catch him for 10+ laps by this point.
I finally got him on lap 26 drafting down to turn 1, only to give it back in turn 3 when the rear stepped out over the crest. I kept pushing, more interested in recovering the time lost in the mistake than heeding the warnings of the tires that had clearly had enough.
Later that lap, cresting the hill onto the main straight, I tracked out as I've done hundreds of times before. But this time, the two little bumps upset the car, and the rear stepped out without warning where it never had before. I try to save it once, but fail, and go 2 feet in at about 85mph and ride it out. Took it easy the last 2 laps after this.
As near as I can figure out, these tires were bought in 2020, and I think I probably started running them in 2022 or early 2023. Still have tread left, but clearly were far from being up for a 50min enduro. Even the big spin didn't noticeably flat spot them!
