Rocky Mountain Motorsports - RMM

Have been running the Goodyear Supercar 3R through its paces on the stock sizes (275/35R18 front, 325/30R19 rear), this is the only size I can run the 3R with the rims I have. The best I managed is shown first in the video (a minor improvement over my prior PB). Wheels are Apex VS-5RS.

Next up is my 3rd session on the Vitour Tempesta P1 (315/30R18 front, 345/30R18 rear). Wheels are Apex EC-7RS. I have been out a couple more times on the P1, got close, but so far the lap shown is my PB.

This is not apples to apples in terms of tire sizes. But for me, it's a valid comparison as the 3R sizes I've been running are the only size I can get that will work with my car/rms. The wheels are not identical, but similar specs (with the obvious difference 19" vs. 18" rears). The P1 is available in WAY more sizes, so I am really hoping this tire works out. Ambient temps were similar, with the P1 being a few degrees warmer (17 vs. 21*C).

So far, I found an immediate improvement on one of my biggest complaints on the GY 3R. With the 3R, I could not get the power down on exit, I was almost always waiting exiting tight corners (3, 10 and 16) with the 3R. Perhaps this is just me and I need to drive the 3R differently, however I noticed this right out of the box last year, compared to Nankang CRS and AR-1 that I was running prior. I found an immediate improvement with the confidence I had on exit with the Vitour P1. I am still feeling out how much I can attack the corners, but hopes are high so far!

The P1 is rated by Vitour as a 200 treadwear tire, but if you do some research you may find that there was some controversy over the rating in some US 200TW classes. This is not important to me, but what IS important is how long they last. I did not get much life out of the 3R's. Too early to tell on the P1 with regards to longevity. I was getting anywhere between 50-70 (hard) laps on the 3R fronts (and well over 100 laps on the rears). So far, I have put 68 laps on the P1 and both front and rear have plenty of tread left, so far so good!
