We were breaking in a new motor Saturday driving the engine pretty conservatively but I was able to build enough of a lead in the beginning to hold on for a win over a charging Kurt Frietzsche. We finished first overall and I set a new track record in the race at a 1:31.8 (Timing Line is not actually at start finish at Pacific but Garmin stops and starts there showing a 1:32.0 on Catalyst) while short shifting which I was pretty happy about although I believe there is definitely a 1:29 in the car once we solve our handling issues! For the last three years I’ve been dealing with high speed instability in the rear of the car at multiple tracks and it’s been super sketchy specifically at Pacific. The car just has a mind of its own and the rear wants to snap around through Turns 1, 5b, and 9. Well we think we finally discovered the issue after trying everything else we could, as it appears the entire rear axle assembly is bent causing nearly 1/4 toe in on both sides. It’s not a problem at slow speeds but at 130mph through Turn 1 I’m having to counter steer and catch the car from spinning 😬 It has forced me to drive this track fairly conservatively for the past three years along with ViR last year. Time for a new solid rear axle assembly!
