2006 Mustang GT, stock 3v powertrain, top speed 117.4mph, MCS TT2 coilovers, Supercar 3R tires and an LSD in need of a rebuild.
This was a mashup event with the South Caroline Region of SCCA hosting a Time Trials, and Track Event benefiting Racing for ALS. The temps were cool this November weekend which made it difficult to get heat into the 100 TW tires, but that pushed me to try new tactics and focus on warming the tires during the first out lap (not on video). Even on the first flying lap, I was still fighting for grip. As the session progressed, the tires came in and the car began to heat soak. The trade off was frustrating, but I worked on trying to be consistent with each lap. More frustrating was my slipping LSD, which made putting the power down exiting corners nearly impossible, especially around T12-T13. I tried to manage this by taking different lines, trying to lessen the steering angle, hoping to keep power to both rear tires. But it's obvious, it's time for a rebuild.
Many fellow competitors complained of less grip on the track. It was very frustrating early into the weekend for me, as I struggled to get close to my previous PB set there in March, a 148.3, on higher Treadwear tires. I chatted with a friend, and pro-racecar driver, about being much slower and very frustrated. They recommended I treat the weekend as if I was at a new track and not trying to drive it as I had in the past. With that in mind, I dropped time my next session out. That's advice that will stick with me!
Overall, it was a fulfilling weekend. Money was raised for my favorite Charity, I tackled obstacles I hadn't yet experienced on track, set a new PB, and was surrounded by friends for the last track weekend of the 2022 season!
If you've read this far, thank you! Also, what do you think that metallic noise was at the end of the video??? EDIT: I know what it was!! I lost both the front sway bar end links. Only the aluminum shafts, the threaded top & bottom were still attached to the sway bar and strut. The metallic noise had to be the 2nd one falling out, which means I drove this whole session with my front sway bar not hooked up. Makes a lot more sense why the car had no front end grip!
