The Automotodrom Brno, formerly known as Masaryk Circuit, is a 3.35-km (2.08-mile) raceway sitting in the town of Ostrovačice, a part of the greater Brno area, in the Czech Republic. The racing venue in its current form sits in a location hosting auto and moto racing since the nineteen-thirties. The racetrack was paved in 1987 and nowadays hosts numerous competitions such as the Formula 3 Euroseries, the European Touring Championship, or the Superbike World Championship. The climate in the region is of a Continental type, with considerable temperature variations between seasons and 120 rainy days a year on average.
There are 14 corners at the Automotodrom Brno, arranged in such a way to provide heavy braking and acceleration sectors at regular intervals. The circuit has an impressive vertical gain of 249 feet (75 meters) over extended downhill and uphill sections without abrupt climbs or dives. Racers feel their vehicles flowing easily on the raceway, where risk-taking to leverage passing opportunities reaps tremendous rewards. There are off-camber corners, blind turns, and downshifting sections where racers need to take their cars from 230 to 100 km/h (143 to 62 mph) on short notice. The forest around the track is stunning, and the landscaping of the surrounding hills evokes feelings of racing as in the old days.
