Track Battles by Eduardo Rodrigues (erc-racing); Lotus Elise 111R vs Honda S2000.

My fastest lap, side by side in both the Lotus Elise 111R and in the Honda S2000.
Lotus Elise 111R ~ 2.35.4
Honda S2000 ~ 2.40.9

Both cars are really good fun to drive.
The Honda more prone to over-steer, the Lotus giving you more feedback at all time about what is happening.

The Lotus feels faster and it is the faster car. I was not expecting such a difference but the stop watch doesn't lie. When compared with the Honda, the Lotus has the better power to weight ratio, the better tyres and the more compromised set-up for track performance.
The weight and the better tyres allow for the later braking and higher speeds throughout the fast corners of Silverstone.

The Honda powertrain is amazing. The gearbox-engine combination are better than the Lotus and are worth a reference!
However they are not enough to make up for the weight penalty. It is however a great car to drive, to push to the limit. Lively and rewarding. I believe similar tyres to the Lotus would close the gap by around 2s but that needs testing...

The Lotus is definitely the track tool of choice. It also has the brand image on its side. Lotus...
The Honda fights back by offering very similar thrills on track (even if the lap time is slower! Who cares apart from me and a very few others?!) and by being a better proposition in terms of everyday (all year round) practicability!
What is the best?!
Uhm... very difficult to tell!
If you do several track days, then the Lotus...

Looking forward for the comparison of these two cars in Spa-Francorchamps and Nurburgring (although the latest will never be a fair one! traffic dependent... to make lap comparisons!).
In May hopefully!
Stay tuned! :)
