Leading up to the 45th running of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, the iconic race's new title sponsor has established a production car record around the 1.968 mile historic street circuit in the 2019 Acura NSX.

In the capable hands of SCCA Hall-of-Famer and long-time Acura racing partner, Peter Cunningham, the 2019 NSX established a new production car lap record of 1:35.663. The record setting run was made with an unmodified NSX, fitted with road-legal tires.

The 2019 NSX will also serve as the official Pace Car for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Race action includes a run for the checkered flag by Acura Team Penske, fielding a pair of ARX-05 Daytona Prototypes driven by Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya along with Ricky Taylor and Dane Cameron co-driving, respectively, in the BUBBA Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach on Saturday. Acura will also join the field in Sunday's NTT IndyCar Series race with a car campaigned by Meyer Shank Racing and driven by Jack Harvey, marking the return of Acura colors to Indy Car racing for the first time since 1994.

About Peter Cunningham
Peter Cunningham helped to put Acura Motorsports on the map after establishing RealTime Racing in 1987. Over the years, the RealTime Racing team has gone on to record 92 race victories on 27 different tracks in World Challenge competition. Most recently, Cunningham and the RealTime Racing team achieved an Open Class record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. In 2018, Cunningham's many motorsports achievements were recognized with an induction into the Sports Car Club of America's Hall of Fame.

About NSX
Introduced at Monterey Car Week this past August, the 2019 NSX features a host of chassis enhancements include stiffer stabilizer bars, a new grippier tire and software tuning designed to elevate performance in all driving situations—whether on the street or race track. The result is a supercar even more responsive to the will of the driver, leading to a nearly 2-second faster lap time around the legendary Suzuka Circuit.
