Opening Lap – Why It Matters, in 100% stock 992 GT3 RS.
This wasn’t about chasing lap records – not yet.
After nearly three years away from track driving, I stepped into a brand new 992 GT3 RS for the first time. The goal: find the baseline.
I hadn’t driven at Gotland Ring since 2022, and haven’t done much driving at all since. This was my first RS session, and I’ll come back two more times – just like I did with the GT3. The goal is to eventually dip under 3 minutes.
⸻
Session Overview
I started with a few slow laps (3:30–4:00 pace) to get cameras, tire pressures and the Track Precision app dialed in.
Then: five laps.
Lap 5: 3:06.8 on CUP2 – just 1.9 seconds off my best-ever lap: 3:04.9min in a 992 GT3 on CUP2 R, set on my third visit in that car. See that lap here

Had I been on CUP2 R here, I’d likely have matched that GT3 time. The RS clearly has potential – even as I’m just starting to figure it out.

Driving Analysis
Using Track Precision app to check my PB lap from sep 2022 in 992 GT3– and honestly ….
Now ring rusty...I am in Wrong gears in in 992 GT3 RS....in key corners. Braking in the wrong spots – and way too early!! I completely missed the RS’s aero brake and what it can do.
But that’s fine.
That’s what a first outing is for. The car is totally new to me, and I haven’t driven anything properly in years. I’m not expecting miracles.
What it does show is that the car has a lot left. And so do I. With more seat time, this will come together.

Next Sessions & Nürburgring Plan
This is just the beginning. I’ll return for two more sessions at Gotland Ring, aiming to break that 3-minute barrier with the RS. That’ll complete my three-run “build-up” – same as I did with the 992 GT3.
Then it’s time for the Nürburgring – no prep, no training, no simulations.
“And it’s gonna be real exciting, ’cause the last time I drove the Nürburgring Nordschleife was back in September 2022 in 992 GT3.”
HENCE …Just show up and drive :-) The first lap there won’t be the fastest. It won’t be clean. But it will be honest.
And that’s all I want: to see where I land @ NBR in a one shoot go lap, its me and my track app for data:-)
