This is the Sunday AM - last sprint race of the weekend - for Group 1, IMSA 2.5 RS Reunion. This was a really fun race with some good battles with @MadMikeMotorsports56 (VW Mk2 Golf), Bob Ball (BMW 2002), Vince Vaccaro (Alfa GTV), AJ (BMW 2002) and David Lebrun (Alfa GTV). All great drivers and cars! It is still amazing to me that I have the car, and the ability to compete, towards the front of this very fast and comptetive group. What a great time!
I was generally driving ok in this race, but my front tires were pretty done and I overheated them halfway through and slid off in the chute. I was also using a loaner transmission (Thanks Matt Sturgeon! you saved the weekend!) and the gear ratio's didn't really suit the car. I was banging off the rev limiter at 8000 rpm in fourth before turn 10, and the fifth gear is a little too long. This took a little bit out of the ultimate performance of the car over the lap.
I qualified 6th, out of 40 in the group, and finished 4th in this race with a best lap of 1:29.7. I got up to 3rd at one point but it's hard to keep Mike Kelley behind you when you are sliding into the dirt. I was pretty consistent and turned mostly 1:29 and low 1:30's in this race. My personal best at this track is a 1:29.0 but I couldn't get down there with this gearbox. Next time!!
