What a weekend. Very proud of this lap and how I performed overall at this event. I ended up with P3 in the podium sprint, roughly 0.1 seconds behind P1 and literally 0.001 seconds behind P2. I have no regrets about how I drove during the sprint, it's just how the cards fell. While the results are ultimately frustrating, my performance was night and day compared to how I felt at CMP a couple months ago. My performance in that podium sprint was nowhere near my own standards and I've been working hard to prevent a result like that from ever happening again.
Holding an official track record is something I've dreamed about for as long as I've been driving, and to have finally achieved this at Midwest Festival is honestly unbelievable. This is the biggest, highest stress event on the Gridlife calendar and is typically known to offer some of the worst surface conditions you'll ever see at Gingerman. I came into this event knowing that I was well prepared but I would never have counted on breaking the track record, or even setting a new PB.
I truly could not have done this without the help of everyone supporting me, both sponsors and crew. I do not take any of this support for granted and am in constant disbelief of where I am currently compared to where I started in this pursuit. Huge thank you to Seb (of Seb's Garage) for constantly knowing when I need to be pushed, when I need to slow it down to collect myself, and when I need to be told to eat. Thank you to Chris and Kasia (Immortan Automotive) for always being ready to help with car prep/repairs and just overall being some of the best friends I could have ever hoped to make in or outside of this community. Thank you to Nathan for going above and beyond in paddock, shouldering much of the load with car prep and organization to allow me to focus purely on data review, planning and my mental state. And another huge thank you to Scott (of Robertson Racing) for aiding in my development more than I could have hoped for in the short time we've been working together.
While this event is ultimately another P3 Gridlife finish (up to 5 now...), I feel that it's the sign of a turning point in my development as a competitor, rather than simply as a driver. Holding this record is something that I'm truly proud of.
Next stop is Mid-Ohio in just a few weeks, and I'm already focusing in on forming a game plan to prepare. I still need to edit and upload video from CMP. It was a fun track and a wild adventure of a season opener, but my performance left such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't really want to spend much time thinking about it. I'll try to ride the current positive energy and revisit it.
