This is my first time back on a full road course after about 6 years, my first time back at this track in 8 years and my first time on track with Captain Proton, my Ariel Atom 2. As you can see in the video, I'm a bit timid with throttle, although I did let it rip at full throttle a few times. I left LOTS on the table mainly by way of lifting/braking into corners too early and not applying enough throttle in areas I should have. However I still ran a 2.03. I was having issues with electronics on the day of the event; Harry's lap timer wouldn't sync up with the GoPro, then the GoPro wouldn't start so I missed recording the first session altogether. Probably for the best because my first time out I was very cautious. Got the GoPro working on the second session but not Harry's, or so I thought. It must have synced up w/ the GPS and started timing but without controlling the GoPro so no telemetry. You can barely see the time at the end of the lap, ash/dust in the air left a coating on the lens I didn't find until my last session. It'll take me a few more times out on course to get the hang of going fast again. I also had an issue with fuel slosh so I know that I can't let the tank get below 1/3 full when driving on course. I had a stutter on course going into the buttonhook. All things considered, Captain Proton did great but I do see some areas where I can improve the car, namely, getting more revs so I'll be looking at a balance shaft delete/valve-train lightening/ATI damper along with more effective aero (I got ideas here too). My main reason for going was to hang out with friends and have fun. And I did that in spades.
