How do you set an EV track record laptime? Easy, go to a track that other EVs drivers ignore.
Driving an EV on a racetrack, in this case a Tesla Model 3 at Chuckwalla, takes a lot of juice. I was going through about 10% of the car's battery for each hot lap. The nearest Supercharger is 55 miles away from the track, so you've got to make due. I rented an RV spot for $60/night with a 50 amp 14-50 outlet. This is good for about 10% charge per hour. So, every hot lap on the track takes about an hour of onsite charging to replenish. It got me through the first two sessions ok, but by the final session I was starting the lap at just over 50% battery, and needed to make it 55 miles to the Supercharger on the way home. Cutting it close for sure. I ended up pulling into the Indio Supercharger with 3% battery remaining.
