One Raceway (ex Wakefield Park) has reopened and i was back there for Rd. 6 of the 2024 NSW Supersprint Series.

First of all the track upgrades are great! A full resurface, track widening in parts, new corners and main garage area upgrades are all good. They have moved to mylaps timing devices so dorians are no longer used for anyone wondering. Overall the track is now much faster and flowing. T2 can be taken much faster and wider to link with T3. T4/5 are both wider now so more speed can be carried across the hill which makes the run down the hill into the fish hook quicker then the new last corner complex is completely different with many lines to choose from through there. I found the wide line then cutting the inside curb onto the front straight to be the quickest and the best way to get your top speed up on the straight.

In terms of lap time difference i think most people are finding they are about 1.5 seconds slower than the old layout but i expect that time to come down a little as the track is rubbered in and the right lines are discovered. I should also note that the start/finish line on the racebox seems to be a little off compared to the actual start/finish line at the track. Throws the video off a little but the timing between the racebox and the natsoft was only 0.01 off all day.

This was my only round competing in the series this year after only just getting the car back up and running. Unfortunately because of this i was put in a non competing class and just didn't have a good day overall. Being the last group meant my first session was at 10:30am and 2nd was around midday. Generally too hot by that time of day. On top of that i had lots of traffic issues and sloppy driving on my behalf.

My fastest lap which was from session 2 in the hottest part of the day was far from my best. You'll see in the lap i'm 10km/h down at the start of the lap due to last corner traffic. I started taking a wider line through T2/T3 which allowed me to carry more speed and got me shifting into 4th up the hill. I was then using 3rd across and down the hill which was faster. A miss shift into the fish hook also lost me a couple tenths and i turned in a little earlier in the last corner. All this combined and still my fastest lap just shows how much is left on the table. The optimum of 1:07.65 should be easily achieved with a clear run next time.
