Terry got to take his first every laps on track in a GT500, with the amazing Tremec TR-9070 7 speed sequential DCT and 760 hp 5.2L supercharged engine. This was a co-drive since the C6 had no throttle pedal activity after we unloaded it for this event (had to be re-tuned).
Terry had been driving in this TT event in the shop's Tuner 3 prepped '23 BRZ for 2 sessions but running in the Max1 class, which is what he wants to compete in this 2023 season in the Texas Region SCCA. A fellow Max1 competitor Stan gave up his last session and asked Terry to take it for a few laps. He jumped at the chance, left it in automatic / traction control modes, and took 3 laps.
The first lap was a tentative 1:20.64 lap, just feeling out the car at the limits. Lap 2 was a bit better but still somewhat reserverd, but by Lap 3 the stock 305/315mm tires were screaming in protest. Stan normally runs this on a 325mm Nankang 200TW tire all around but they were not in stock so the stockers were on.
The transmission is AMAZING and coupled with the 760 hp thrust makes it worth the $100K price tag and 4000 pound curb weight. Lots of coolers and amazing engineering make this car work WELL on track. It would be even faster on proper coilovers! The 2nd lap was enough to put Terry in the lead for Max1 after this first 2023 event... and he again had to borrow two other cars for Event #2 and Event #3! Eventually his own track car might be ready... ;)
