Charles Leclerc earned his second bonus point this season after posting the DHL Fastest Lap in the Azerbaijan GP. The Ferrari driver was only eighth on the grid following his crash in qualifying but finished the race in fifth place.

Leclerc made an additional pit stop during the final stages of the Grand Prix and began the hunt for the fastest lap on fresh tires in impressive fashion. He burned a time of 1:43.009 into the tarmac on the last lap which was about one second faster than race winner Valtteri Bottas, who had been fastest up until then. Leclerc also set a new lap record.

"We extracted the most we could have done out of today’s race", said Leclerc, who posted Ferrari's 250th fastest lap in F1 history. "We had a strong first stint and were able to gain some positions there. After the pit-stop it became clear that we would not be able to move further up the order, so we decided to stop pushing to save the tyres, pitted for a new set and so I was able to bring home the point for the fastest lap at the end."

Leclerc now leads the overall standings of the DHL Fastest Lap Award, having secured two best times on the day. Bottas and Pierre Gasly have both posted one fastest race lap each.
