Sixty-second track day. After a small 2-month break, back at it again.
Couldnt wait till next Saturday for birthday bash, so I also signed up last minute with Turn8.
Only ran with them a few times and decided to give them another go. Several buddies there to have fun with. Only setup change is a Schroth SHR FLEX HANS for my helmet. Finally talked into buying one.
Normal track day was sold out - so my only way in was doing Time Attack. I'm not against time attack but I generally dont consider doing it. I'm just there for driver mod and a good time. Thought I might squeeze into Street class but ended up in Limited because I have no rear seats :/ Wasnt terrible tho. Ended up on the podium in third with a 1.25.9. I also corded the shit out of my front inside tires during the session. Had to pack it up after only 3 sessions. Boo.
Either knocked my alignment outa spec or the change to higher spring rates recently has caused pretty sever front inner tire wear. (Ended up being alignment) Tires were toast after session 3 (15hc). The previous 3 sets of V730, I always blistered the outside around the 20th HC. Either my camber curve has vastly improved from spring rate bump, or my alignment is off when the coilover popped out on track a few months back. On both sides tho? Will need to get alignment and see what specs I am at. Might need to remove a little camber if toe looks ok. (-3.8 / 0 toe atm)
Never really planned on trying to beat my PB today (1.24.7). Only been to West a few times over the last year. Wanted to get reacquainted and warmed up. Have 2 more West events in the next few weeks with both cars. Both of which I will be going for new PB's. Coulda brought the RE71 set out, but I am saving them for a sub50 E46 Sonoma attempt in May. Putting on my first set of AR1's to replace the V730s. Should have a tad more pace than what I did on V730 PB for a flyer.
I did a very large DIY service to the E46 over the last month. Several thousand dollars equivalent of labor. Felt really good out on track and even better that nothing went wrong throughout the day. I thought I might need tweak some random part. Most significant change that will affect track conditions was a new water pump and thermostat. Which unlocked my DO88 radiator, which has been handicapped by the failing 20+ year old OEM parts. Coolant was amazingly solid all day.
