August 3, 2022:

Our autocross events have kept us busy during the slight summer break but we were itching to get back out on track. With a few key events coming up soon, we went back to our home track to shake the rust off and get some more laps under our belt.

This was our 8th track day for the year and 19th time overall we have turned laps on track. Electing to go on the last session of the advanced run group, we had little traffic to deal with as opposed to the last time we were at CMS. Being on a setup only tested at autox, I took it easy on the first few laps to build confidence as the car was tail happy and loose at CMP before the wáng. Especially as the worn in RS4s needed time to warm up. Once I got confident in the car, I took down a cool down lap before going on a flying lap.

This lap had a lot of small mistakes, especially with the braking zones and heel-toe downshifting, but even so my predicted lap kept going down. Until I got a bit greedy and took too much curb in the last chicane trying to push hard at the end and threw a 1:55.84 lap away. Even with the slight mistakes and recovery, I still set my fastest lap of the day. Had I fought harder after the recovery for the last bit of time, I still could have beat Luke’s best.

When it was all said and done, Luke ran a 1:56.522 in his track Volvo 850. Just edging past our 1:56.847. Both of us still had time left in our cars so we’ll be back to CMS next year for a rematch on home turf. For now, the attention shifts to keeping the cars healthy to keep the 2022 season going as the second half of the season gets underway.
