Steve Sutcliffe is a British automotive journalist and former racing driver with 59 recorded laps across 55 vehicles on LapMeta. Born in 1968, Sutcliffe is regarded as one of the finest drivers automotive journalism has ever produced. His racing background includes finishing second in his first race driving a Caterham, then three seasons as works driver in the TVR Tuscan Challenge followed by British Touring Car Championship competition with Lexus. Remarkably, he drove Honda's F1 car and lapped Silverstone National circuit within half a second of Honda's test driver James Rossiter in Jenson Button's 2007 Honda RA107.
His journalism career began at local newspapers before joining Haymarket Publishing, eventually becoming editor of Autocar magazine from 2003-2004. Going freelance in 2004, he has contributed to The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Auto Express, Evo, Octane and other publications. His LapMeta data shows 28 laps at CW configuration, 22 laps at Coastal CW, and 3 laps West circuit. His ability to critically assess even the fastest road cars is second to none, while his car control at the limit is exemplary. The 55-vehicle portfolio reflects professional automotive journalism testing diverse platforms from supercars to performance machinery. With 59 laps across 55 vehicles including F1 testing experience, Steve Sutcliffe exemplifies the automotive journalist whose racing pedigree and exceptional driving skill enable authoritative vehicle evaluations trusted by millions of readers.
2019's eCoty winner, Porsche's Cayman GT4 is one of the best sports cars you can buy, and with the company's PDK transmission it should also be one of the quickest cars we have lapped at Bedford Autodrome's West circuit. Steve Sutcliffe discovers just how quick in our Bedford Hot Lap series.
