Max Emilian Verstappen is a Belgian-Dutch racing driver currently competing in Formula One, under the Dutch flag, with Red Bull Racing. At the 2015 Australian Grand Prix, when he was aged 17 years, 166 days, he became the youngest driver to compete in Formula One.
Max Verstappen was involved in an exciting scrap with Lewis Hamilton throughout the whole of the Hungarian GP. The pair of them pulled well out in front of the rest of the Formula 1 field and battled for both the victory and the DHL Fastest Lap.
As he hunted down the leader Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton already broke the lap record set by Michael Schumacher in 2004. Hamilton quickly caught up with Verstappen and took the top spot from him.
But while Hamilton was on his way to victory, the battle for the fastest lap continued. Verstappen immediately came into the pits again for a final stop. He then posted a time of 1:17.103 just before the end of the race on new soft tires, which was more than a second faster than Hamilton had been previously.
Verstappen therefore finished runner-up behind Hamilton but secured the DHL Fastest Lap and the bonus point. “Of course, when you start at the front you want to win, but you also have to be realistic and to finish second with the fastest lap was the most that we could do,” said the Red Bull driver.
“It was a good weekend for us and I go into the break with a good feeling as we’re getting closer all the time,” added Verstappen. This was his third fastest lap of the season and with it, he takes over the lead in the fight for the DHL Fastest Lap Award as the summer break gets underway.
