7 heat cycled tires kept me out of contention for Regional 4. I drove hard but lacked grip. You'll see me fighting the wheel quite frequently.
The start of the race was a wash. I couldn't see the tower through the MX5 in front of me. I completely missed the green flag and dropped two positions.
The front runners started to pull away by the second lap until all three of them decided they wanted to fight for turn 9. This let me catch up which lead to some pretty ridiculous racing.
What happens when 3 Miatas all want to take turn 11 for their own?
We go three wide of course.
Chaos ensured.
That got sorted out without casualties where Eric was in front and Curtis was behind. I tried to drive as hard as I could but the gap to Eric kept getting longer. I managed to keep Curtis behind me for a period until I made a mistake at turn 14 where my foot, again, slips off the brake pedal (possibly due to locking up abruptly). I make a mega save but that allowed Curtis to drive away, which left me all alone :(
Thankfully, Tim started to drop off near the latter half of the race which gave me someone to race with. After 2 laps of drafting Tim, I noticed my water temperature was starting to rise. Since I started racing Spec Miata, I never seen the temperature rise before. Was this an engine problem? I immediately slowed down and dove into the pits.
Turns out it was for nothing as it was just the lack of airflow due to the draft. I didn't consider to move off line to cool off. You learn.
