Went back to Wakey with the i20N yesterday to try and hit the goal of achieving a 1:10.x lap in complete OEM trim. I wanted to get this before throwing in some camber bolts and upgrading the front brake pads. With the weather looking perfect I was confident that I could achieve my goal.
Since the last track day I had sorted out a custom seat rail and put the spare Sparco bucket seat from my s2000 in the i20N and it's been a great addition! the new seat set up gets me 4 inches lower than the stock seat and held me in nicely while out on track. A much needed addition!
The day was looking good after the first couple sessions being straight back on my previous day's pace and only 1/10th of the 1:10.x goal.
throughout the day I played with the set up a little trying different tyre pressures. I think I've now found the spot where I'm confident with the car being slightly loose in the rear.
Throughout the day I had a bunch of laps where the times were looking good but I'd mess a corner here and there and threw away the lap. Finally in the early afternoon i hit the 1:10.92 lap above and achieved my goal. While watching the lap back there is a clear understeer issue through most corners. I think I'm entering the corners too hot and compromising mid corner to exit. I will look into some coaching to sort out my FWD driving to try and get out of my RWD habits. Once I do that I believe I can get much more out of the car.
