Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park-FIRM Main Course CW
Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park-FIRM Main Course CW Notes:
The Florida International Rally and Motorsports Park, commonly called The FIRM, is a world-class Motorsports complex operating on a 420-acre lot of land at Keystone Heights Airport, a 10-minutes drive away from the Northern Floridian town of Starke and 40 minutes away from Gainesville. The complex includes a 1.6-mile (2.57-km) road track resulting from the combination of two independent circuits, the East Loop and the West Loop, a half-miler karting circuit, several rally stages offering different track surfaces, and a 1700 x 175 feet skidpad. The Firm sits in one of the rainiest spots in the United States, with high humidity year-round, super hot summers, and cool winters with no snow. Racers can enjoy the track in any season but paying attention to the weather forecast is very important.
The road course at The FIRM has ten turns and features a 1725 ft (525.78 m) straight away, which may include a succession of four 90-degrees turns in the middle, known as The Shoebox. This track is compatible with both the clockwise and counterclockwise orientation and has a constant width of 30 feet (9 meters). The average speed is 69 mph (111 km/h), with an average lap time of 1:18.2.
Main Course CW Notes:
Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park's Main Course clockwise configuration delivers 2.575 kilometers through the facility's primary road course layout in reversed CW direction, located in Starke, Florida, 64 kilometers south of Jacksonville on 170 hectares of sand, pine forest, and scrubland. This CW routing reverses the traditional counterclockwise flow across the 9-meter-width 1.6-mile road course, creating 69 mph average speeds (compared to typical CCW performance) while transforming every corner's approach angle and brake marker location. The clockwise direction affects the Main Course's technical character where corners designed primarily for CCW racing create different banking relationships and sight lines when traversed opposite direction, while the facility's extensive rally trails and off-road courses provide varied motorsport experiences beyond the paved road course configurations.
The Main CW configuration's character emerges from reversed direction across circuit designed for counterclockwise primary flow. The 9-meter constant width accommodates both directions though corner optimization favors traditional CCW routing, making clockwise variant primarily novelty or advanced driver development configuration. Florida's subtropical climate enables year-round operation with minimal weather interruptions compared to northern venues, though summer heat and humidity create track temperatures affecting tire degradation across the compact technical layout. The facility's rally-focused heritage and extensive off-road infrastructure attract diverse motorsport audiences beyond pure road racing community. The Main Course serves as paved-surface complement to rally trails spanning the 170-hectare property. SCCA, club racing, and track day organizations utilize the road course while rally schools and off-road events dominate facility use reflecting The FIRM's primary rally training mission. The CW configuration particularly serves advanced driver training where reversed direction forces reliance on visual cues rather than memorized reference points, developing track-reading skills transferable beyond single-venue familiarity. Located one hour from Jacksonville and 30 minutes from Gainesville, The FIRM provides north Florida's unique combined paved-unpaved motorsport facility where Main Course CW offers reversed-direction road racing amid extensive rally and off-road infrastructure unavailable at traditional pure-road-course venues across Florida's limited permanent racing facility landscape.
