Kagoshima

Strecken

Kagoshima City is the "volcano city." Across from Kagoshima is Sakurajima, an active volcano erupting almost daily. In 2020, it erupted 427 times. Kagoshima residents live with volcanic ash. Ash on laundry. Ash on cars. Ash on windows. Every morning, Kagoshima residents brush ash off cars. But by afternoon, ash accumulates again. For Kagoshima residents, "keeping cars clean" is impossible. Sakurajima's volcanic ash is fine. Damages car paint. Enters engines. Clogs air filters. Kagoshima residents accept "cars get dirty." But motorsports is a culture of "keeping cars clean." Racing cars are polished shiny. Engines perfectly maintained. For Kagoshima residents, that's "unrealistic." Drive cars at circuits? First, clean the ash. Today again, Kagoshima residents look up at Sakurajima, brush ash, and accept. Circuits? That's talk from "the world without volcanic ash."
