Onboard from the Toyota MR2 running in Novice Group at SCCA Track Night in America on the afternoon of April 2nd, 2025 at Virginia International Raceway. This video has me driving solo.

Huge shoutout to James for once again letting me thrash his car! It survived both of us driving today (6 fast sessions total) - James drove in the morning 3 and I drove in the afternoon 3. Temperature-wise, it was somewhere in the low 60s for James and the high 60s/low 70s for me. I did all of my sessions with the roof down, so unfortunately the glorious 1ZZ-FE growl got replaced with wind noise in 4th gear and above. The 6 speed really helps around this track, as you just barely hit limiter in 5th on all the straights, and 3rd/4th are perfect for most of the turns. My fastest lap was around a 2:21.0 (I think technically it was a very high 2:20 but TrackAddict says 2:21.0), and it can be found starting around 1:09:40 in the video.

I haven't done a proper actual structured track day in a while! I hadn't run with TNiA before so I self-selected into the Novice group, which turned out alright. I think I only ended up getting 6 or 7 completely unobstructed laps the whole day, but for the most part point-bys were quick and courteous. Despite what I might say in the moment under the helmet, I really can't fault any of the other drivers for not yielding sometimes - especially for the first-timers, it's not always the easiest thing in the world to keep track of everyone behind you while also trying to keep yourself on track.
