Cal Clubs Divisional Spec Miata Race at The Circuit, Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Sunday 3/16/25


Driver: Gabriel Estrada Jr #74 - 1996 Spec Miata 

This is our first race weekend of the 2025 season. Previous day, Saturdays race was a doozie and not posted. This race, Sunday was a great race overall. Enjoy!

I qualified P12 out of 14 for Sundays race. At the start, the front runners seemed to get on throttle alil early before the green flag drop, which I didn't anticipate. Into Turn 1, several cars up front locked up, inducing me into a small lock up. It was a fight for position through turn 2 and 3. 

The driver in front I felt was holding me up lap 2-3 and was somewhat difficult to find a spot for a clean pass. While being patient for an opportunity, the driver behind me was on my tail, trying to stick his nose in for track position, but I didn't let him have it. Down the straight into the bowl, I managed to pull out and dive bomb the inside to make the clean pass. the driver that was behind me, got stuck behind him for a few turns. 

This gave me some breathing room as I attempt to pull away from the pack behind me. A couple laps in, the driver that was previously on my tail was slowly reeling me in. But I decided to up my game a bit and increase my speed through key turns lap after lap, giving me the space to pull away slowly. 

Made a few minor mistakes, with a couple of 2 wheels off, but nothing major. Managed to hold things together for the entire 30min race (Thanks to my Chillout Systems Quantum V3 Driver Cooling System). I celebrated immensely after crossing the finish line, along with a celebratory side by side drive by with a fellow team mate #177 Sam Rezai.

Overall, started P12 and finished P10.
