Group: Red
Tires: V730s (started at 16 HCs)
Conditions: great, can't complain
Setup changes/maintenance:
- fixed rear toe from last weekend's oopsie
- topped up oil on Sunday (oil was 1.5 track days old before the weekend)
- swapped to backup C21s on RF on Sunday since one of the pads were ~1mm
After last weekend's fun adventure to BW circuit, we're back at Laguna Zzzeca with tires on their way out, and front pads getting dangerously close to the backing plates. My original plan was to just show up on Sunday to help with novice instruction and save my tires for April. I showed up both days anyway but Joe was too busy racing and didn't give me any on Saturday. At that point, I decided to just finish my tires off and have a fresh set for the next event.
Struggled at the start to get used to the lack of turn-in response/feel, especially on T6. I don't remember missing T6 apex completely on RE-71RS, so that aspect of the compound continues to disappoint me. After 3 sessions on Saturday, I saw that my LR tire had a couple blisters, which was baffling since it's the tire that does the least amount of work. My fronts were hitting 180-190F, RR was hitting ~170F, and LR was only getting up to ~150F. Maybe they weren't getting up to temp and wheel spin under throttle did them in. After the 2nd session on Sunday, all four tires were blistered, with the RF tire having pretty big ones. After the 3rd session, RF was corded, and the other 3 had at least 5 blisters each. Getting 22 HCs out of a set and still doing 1m40s is pretty good, especially at $225/tire. For my next set, I'll get them heat cycled to see if they can last even longer. Overall, the V730s are awesome value at these sizes, especially with how well they last in a session. I do think my setup needs to be softer to not overwhelm the rears. I might soften the rear sway bar to reduce my mid corner and exit oversteer.
With my front pads down to 1-2mm, I'll need to get a set of CSG's new sprint compound (C1X). My C11 rears still have 4-5mm, so I might continue to run them down unless CSG tells me I should run C1X back there as well. I'm excited to try their new compound as it supposedly provides better modulation.
I won't be back at the track until April for a weekend at west, so that's 5 weeks of no track days. I will def be fiendin by then, but my wallet and my car do need a bit of a break.
4:11 first instance of this G87 slowing down on exit to point me by (very sketchy)

18:00 look at that massive wing on @TrackandBuild
18:55 might be the first time I put 2 wheels off on T6 exit (blame is 70/30 tires/driver)
19:35 another 2 wheels off on T11 exit kinda lol
23:05 fastest lap of the weekend while chasing this crazy fast GR86 (1m39.6)

28:22 pretty happy that I can still make dying V730s slide with throttle
34:20 second instance of this G87 giving a very dangerous point by at a sketchy spot
36:20 sometimes you gotta be quick

1:02:06 nice job ruining another lap
1:04:38 sliding out of T5 is a fun time
1:09:10 I shouldn't complain when all of my tires are blistered
1:10:50 gridlife drift application denied
1:13:39 front tires felt like poop under braking so had to cool down
1:15:45 lol
