Driver's Notes:
2nd Time Attack competition, this time with Narita Dogflight Attack Challenge at Chuckwalla CW. In this configuration, we get two heats to put down a fast lap. Each each consists of an outlap, two hot laps, and a cooldown lap. You're expected to bang out a competitive lap within those two hot laps. The first session of the day is the qualifying round, where they select the top 20 drivers to continue onto the competition. I fortunately qualified in my class, which is RT (Real Touring). In this class, you can't run any type of aero (I took off my front splitter and canards), but there are no limits to power and tires are limited to 80TW. So basically a wide range of cars fit in this category.
In my first heat, just as I was starting my hotlap on the front straight, my car threw a "Drivetrain Malfunction" error and went into limp mode. I had to pull off at Turn 1 and power cycle the car a couple times to get the car back. Knowing that everyone was on flyers, I decided to just park my car on the side of the road for the session and forfeit my heat, which meant that I now only had two hot laps in my second heat to put down a competitive lap in the RealTouring class, which was packed full of fast cars and fast drivers.
In my second heat, fearing that I'd engage limp mode again, I short shifted the entire course and even coasted some straights a little earlier. Luckily, I didn't suffer from any drivetrain malfunctions and was able to bang out a 1:58.53 on my LAST LAP. It wasn't my PB, which I was disappointed by, but I was hoping that it would be good enough to podium in my class.
To my surprise, I had thrown down the fastest lap by only a 10th of a second in my class to clinch the win! An amazing day with a rollercoaster of emotions.
