2017 Toyota 86 (setup details are at bottom of description)
First time ever running the track counter clockwise! It's a trip for sure, may as well be a completely different track. I was nervous that we might have to run this direction for the track sprint at SCCA last year but we ultimately didn't have to. I'm definitely grateful to get the practice in case it comes up this year.
My day started off a little sketchy with me spinning through T1 and taking out two brake markers. After I realized I could dive into the inside curb the same way I do CW I got a little too confident, and when the back end came out on me I quickly realized how much less track there is to work with coming out of pretty much every corner in this direction. Fortunately there was no apparent damage to the car aside from some light scuffs and a little curb rash on the wheel from catching the side of the pavement. I'm glad to have marked all the suspension bolts the last time the car was aligned.
This lap is obviously far from the limit compared to my CW runs, but I was happy to keep cutting time every session throughout the day. When I got behind Dan's Miata I got pretty fired up about catching him and making the pass, and it led to us both running our best lap of the day on the same lap. Managed to cut a full 3 seconds off of the times I'd been running leading up to it.
Running this track backwards really reinforced how valuable my sim practice has been. This was the first time I didn't do any sim laps for a new track ahead of time and my progression was markedly slower than I've seen in the past. I'm definitely going to have to stop slacking on the sim this season and should probably start working on Pitt Race like now.
