Comments on Road America and the weekend down below....but first, the lap:
💥There's SO MUCH more time in this car here. Admittedly, i am pretty intimidated by this track, and it didn't help that multiple people had significant incidents in nearly every session. I am hesitant in nearly every corner, especially T1, T6/7, the Kink, & T13 - just did not have the timing nailed or the cajones to keep up the speed. Also didn't have time to dial in the setup, so fighting a ton of exit oversteer and some inconsistent turn in. Not using the whole track, etc, etc
Still also fighting some very intermittent power issues - a couple times, it almost felt like a very minor fuel cut at full throttle, other times it just felt like i was down ~30hp. The data shows it too - 8 mph delta between the vmaxs of all 6 fast laps. I still think it's electrical & will continue to investigate.
💥With all that said, I'm pretty happy with a 2:31.5 after only 6 laps at speed. Given the whole weekend, i believe i could be in the low 30s, if not high 29s. Will be back next year to find out!
On the weekend:
💥Road America really does have everything, especially this weekend! Extreme speeds (3 times per lap!), butt-puckering corners, car destroying curbs, fuel-cut inducing carousels, blind crests, crashes, fires, drifting on a kart track, 160+mph full-course drifts, excruciatingly long walks around the track, EDM music, LASERS, and actually good concession food. In short, it's two and a half minutes & 640 acres of chaos and fun!
💥Personally, I am very happy to finally have turned some laps here. It's been on my bucket list since i was a kid watching Indy and playing it on the first Forza games.Honestly, it lives up to even the loftiest of expectations.
💥Last year, when my transmission broke on the first warmup lap, i never got a chance to actually experience the track or the facilities. After the failure, I tried to stick around for a bit, but was just too frustrated & dejected that I packed up and left only a few hours after i had arrived.
💥This year was different in many ways, similar in some. My time on track was still cut short with a mechanical failure, but this time i was able to bank a few fast laps. This lap is my fastest of the weekend, as well as the 6th and final fast lap that i managed. The session after this, I ended up breaking a front control arm ball joint, likely from the curbs, and losing control of the car in T1. Thankfully, no other damage, but that was the end of my weekend.
💥Trying out a new Garmin camera location - apologies for the poor framing and lack of noise reduction
