Two of my fastest laps from Atlanta Motorsports Park, the last being a 1:38.733 (AiM solo)
Cliff notes for those short of attention:
- Car ran great outside of fuel starve in turn 15
- Dropped my personal best by 1.778 seconds, shifting early due to sound violation
- I could not be happier with how everything went
Yesterday the Goldfish went back on track for the first time in a year. In the past few months the car was basically down to a shell and back. When I sent the engine off to Race Engineering, I didn't even have plans to put a cage in it this year 😂. We finished the car at midnight, and went to AMP with a total of 13 hours of sleep in the past 3 days. the ONLY problem encountered, is that my fuel starve issue I thought I fixed 2 years ago is now back in turn 15. After all we did, that was the only issues and I am extremely happy with that.
The day started out rough. I was rusty and this car is setup differently than what I have been driving lately. First two sessions the car was almost undrivable. Got black flagged for sound violation second session, messed around with trying to make coke can baffles, but ultimately spent most the day shifting at 5500 RPM and riding a gear high for fear of getting flagged again and kicked out.
Tire pressure and suspension adjustments got the car handling better, and my confidence started to come back. Previous best was a 1:40.511, managed a 1:40.203 on a lap that never saw more than 5500rpm (7k redline).
Last session I picked it up a bit, and on my very last lap met my goal of breaking into the 1:38's with a 1:38.733. This lap included many mistakes, too much coasting, slight slowdown by traffic, and fuel starve in turn 15. I few tweaks and working on the loose nut behind the wheel, this car is going to be sweet! and that was on my old 205 width VR-1's, i didn't even have time to fit my new 225 RC-1's! Bring on the search for 1:37's 😎
Have to say thank you again to all my friends who kept me on track through the last year and a special thanks to my teammate Jacob Crace who is the only reason I was able to drive my car Sunday. I never would have gotten it done without him.
Also a special thanks to Chris Graham and @Race Engineering for the engine work. Many of you know how reluctant I am to let other people work on my stuff, but in a world full of crooked shops out to make a buck Chris over delivered while respecting my budget.

Sorry for the novel length post, but to say I am happy is just an understatement. Two fastest laps of the day, last one 1:38.733:
